The Wrath of Semangelof, Part I

"Because a perfectly evil Devil makes even less sense than a perfect God. Imagine, the Devil never learning anything during all this time, never changing his mind about being, 'The Devil.' It's an insult to our intellect, such an idea." -- Anne Rice, The Tale of the Body Thief

The expanse of void extended into eternity. Nothing was everywhere at once. The Beings had been there since the time before time's existence. They were one but wanted more. Together, they decided, they would create many.

"We will separate and see which of us will create the greater being," He said.

"Greater?" She laughed. "Then you may as well give up now."

He stopped and pondered Her words. "You're right," He absolved. "We will each create our own beings, but with one slight caveat--they will be the same in all ways except one--one will exist as you do in your solid form, and the other will exist as I."

Her energy glimmered as if She smiled. There was a knowing that radiated through Her, a heat that emanated with the power of a trillion supernovas, but Her energy was contained by a darkness that soothed Him whenever She was near. It was His favorite thing about Her, that soothing presence. It cast a shadow on His sacred space that felt like home, as if He just belonged there.

"But, Dearest, we exist with many differences already, but I, for the most part, will agree to your conditions," She said. "May I add, though, any advantageous characteristics necessary to survive, and you may do the same with yours?"

He thought it over for a second and shrugged, "Of course."

"You shall create the heavens, and I will create the Earth where they will thrive. For You will be their Light and their warmth, supplying the air that they will breathe, and I will provide the fruit and the trees, the very things that, without your Light, could never be."

He thought over Her words and was very pleased. "They cannot survive without Me?" he asked proudly.

"Yes, Dearest, for You are the Light in the Darkness, the glimmer of hope in the Void. All I ask is that You place something in the heavens for them to recognize me, for I will inhabit the Earth, and they will otherwise forget me."

"My Gaia, I would never allow them to forget you, but as you wish, I will place you in the heavens. You will be this Earth as you speak of it, and I will be its Sun. My sun will be the center of your universe, and you will be Earth's moon. Every twenty-eight days you will be able to see me whole, and it will be as if I am shining my Light upon You, and you will shine that light upon them so that they never forget that we are One."

Having heard His words she was pleased and they separated with a breath. She said aloud, "We will return in seven days--You with your creations, and I with mine. Once we see the completeness of what the other has done we will once more conjoin and rejoice in these new, living beings together."

"I hope to make you proud, My Gaia," He vowed.

"I know You will, My Love," she replied.

He set away immediately to create the heavens. He looked at the expanse of nothingness and focused his energy. As He took a deep breath, He focused on that breath and held it. The longer He held it, the stronger the force within Him grew. He felt a light forming from within and continued holding the breath. All at once the energy burst from within and there was a loud explosion. Before Him spun the greatest light He had ever seen, making Him smile broadly. For in front of Him was a giant mass of blue flaming light, but from it burst many other larger balls of light much like it but great distances away.

I will take my time while creating this one, He thought. The greatest of my Archangels. The Brightest star in the sky. The most glorious being to grace the heavens since Me. If I am the head, he is the tail. He will reign as my righthand and lead the others as My Son. He will be a god among mortals and a leader of his own. He will be righteous, courageous, and loyal. The most beautiful Being of all My creations, he will inspire legions. He will manifest beautiful creations with just his thoughts, and will serve at My side for an eternity.

If He was going to do this right, he needed to ensure He had a righthand who would show up and maintain order as if it were coming directly from Himself. That's why it had to be alluring. It would look like it was carved from the Supreme Being Himself. The others would fall upon themselves in reverence of its glory. Gaia would be amazed that He could create something so spectacular apart from Her. He knew she only thought of Him as a warring, sparring, fly-off-the-handle hothead that blew things up and asked questions last, but that wasn't true. That was only part of His story. He was determined to create something so glorious that even Gaia Herself would marvel. This being would do just that.

He focused his energy on the wings--they were encased in electric blue light, sparkling and erupting with the frequency of energy transferring through the individual feathers. One by one, the translucent feathers sparked and popped with intensifying currents. There was no wind, but they fluttered and flapped as they each jumped as if brought to life--seemingly possessed by some entity that wanted to make them leap from their anchors. The archangel's eyes were closed. There was no sign of life because the being wasn't living, but it would be able to transcend realities and universes just as He could.

"If Gaia is Love, Intuition, Compassion and Creativity, then he will be Desire, the Ego, Tenacity and Determination." The energy pulsed, popped and throbbed as it flowed into the being. He stepped back and looked at his Divine masterpiece. It was His favorite of the archangels. It was very good. It would do great things, and He was proud of His creation.
